Modern Pulp is hosting a June 2025 Flash Fiction Writers Contest. ALL ARE WELCOME to enter.
Prizes:
1st Prize: $50 Dollars.
2nd Prize: $20 Dollars.
3rd Prize: $10 Dollars.
Note: PAYMENTS CAN ONLY BE MADE VIA PAYPAL. You must have a PayPal account to accept your prize.
Rules:
Entries must be 500 words or less. Submissions longer than 500 words (not including title/subtitle) will be disqualified.
Entries are to be submitted to matsumotobooks@gmail.com. To ensure your submission is seen, make the subject line read “June 2025 Contest”.
Entries must be in English.
Entries must be submitted by June 15, 2025, end of day. Submissions made on June 16 or after will not be accepted.
While only the top three entries will receive prize money, the top ten entries will be published on Modern Pulp’s Substack. The author retains all rights to the work beyond this agreement to allow the story to be published here.
Judging:
Entries will be judged on three axes.
Adherence to the writing prompt.
Entertainment value.
Philosophical / spiritual depth.
In short, successful entries will be cutting, relevant pieces that illuminate the human condition while also adhering to the topic of the writing prompt.
June 2025 Writing Prompt
This month we are going with a Sci-Fi theme and the writing prompt for the June 2025 Flash Fiction Contest is as follows:
An alien species, observing the earth from a mothership beyond the Moon, debates the merits of Humanity and if they deserve to continue existing or to be destroyed. At the last moment, something changes their minds.
